  • Personal laptop refresh

Step-by-step plan

  1. 1

    Initial OS setup

Complete OOBE. Set region, language, keyboard. Create a local admin account (Windows) or Apple ID setup (macOS). Skip unnecessary accounts during setup.

  2. 2

    Join to domain or MDM

Enroll in Intune/Jamf for managed devices. Join Entra ID for Microsoft environments. Apply baseline security policies via MDM.

  3. 3

    Install core software

Use Winget (Windows) or Homebrew (macOS) for scripted installs. Core apps: browser, password manager, Microsoft 365, communication tools, VPN client.

  4. 4

    Configure security basics

Enable BitLocker/FileVault. Enable firewall. Configure screen lock (max 5 min). Disable guest account. Install endpoint protection if not via MDM.

  5. 5

    Set up accounts and sync

Sign in to email, calendar, and chat. Configure OneDrive/iCloud sync. Import SSH keys and code signing certificates for developers.
