What this helps with

  • Clearing inbox overload
  • Organising files and cloud storage
  • Cutting unused subscriptions
  • Reducing notification noise
  • Starting fresh with a simple system

Step-by-step plan

  1. 1

    Email triage

Archive everything older than 3 months. Unsubscribe from newsletters you haven't opened in 60+ days (use Unroll.me or do it manually). Set up 3 folders: Action, Waiting, Reference.

  2. 2

    Files and cloud storage

Delete duplicates (use dupeGuru). Empty Downloads folder — save or trash. Organise Documents with 5–7 top-level folders. Check cloud storage usage — delete what you'd never miss.

  3. 3

    Apps and software

Audit all installed apps: when did you last use this? Delete if >3 months unused. On phone: delete apps, remove from home screen if rarely used. Keep home screen minimal.

  4. 4

    Subscriptions audit

Use your bank statement to find all recurring charges. Cancel anything you're not actively using. Use a service like Rocket Money or just export a CSV and filter.

  5. 5

    Notification diet

On both phone and computer: go to Settings → Notifications. Turn off everything except calls and messaging apps. Re-enable only if you notice you need them.
